Meet Kuri - a very cute domestic robot

Meet Kuri - a smart and brilliant innocent-looking domestic robot from the stables of Californian Startup Mayfield Robotics. The robot is built with sensors around its body and responds to user commands/requests with facial expressions, head movements as well as sounds. Perhaps Kuri's design is an inspiration from Star Wars: The Movie.

With a length of 50 centimeters and a combined weight of 6kg, Kuri is composed of high-definition technology on the inside. On the outside, it is designed to have a rounded head with large 'eyes' which blink intermittently as part of its operation dynamics.

It was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017, the robot is also featuring what appears to look like arms on the both sides. In short, it is built to interact like a human.

"Like many adored robots in popular culture, his personality and ability to connect are his greatest attributes," said Mayfield Robotics.

Accordingly, it is equipped with a camera, microphones, speakers and Wi-Fi connectivity for monitoring the house, voice commands, music playback and internet access respectively.

According to SlashGear, the sensors enable Kuri to map out its surroundings and learn its way around the house, making sure it doesn't collide with any obstacles or fall down stairs.

"While insanely cute on the outside, Kuri contains serious technologies on the inside that represent the latest developments in smartphones, gaming, and robotics," said Kaijen Hsiao, chief technology officer and co-founder of Mayfield Robotics.

"We hope Kuri introduces people – especially kids – to the power of technology and can inspire a new world of possibilities for their future," she added.
