Update: The New BlackBerry Mercury Rocking Android 7.0 Nougat

Earlier this year, BlackBerry announced that it had ended production of its own phones, and would shift focus to software development, but in a new twist, is to release a new phone.

The new Blackberry Mercury powered by Android

Early third quarter, the Canadian company intimated us that it would release one more phone with a QWERTY keyboard.
The company's CEO wasn't certain of the release date at the time, but as the year runs out, leaked images of the expected BlackBerry Mercury have surfaced on net.

A post made by Tech Times suggested that the new device would sport a 4.5 inch quad HD curved edge screen, with a signature QWERTY keyboard built in, as well as a fingerprint scanner situated in the space bar as illustrated in the image above.

The good part of it is that the new BB Mercury would run on the Android platform and not the outclassed Blackberry OS. Perhaps Research in Motion (RIM) sees a future with Android and as the alternative choice of OS, in the which the company has featured the Android on two of its devices so far - the BlackBerry Priv and the DTEK 50.

Although the previous Android-powered devices by Blackberry had seen poor patronage probably due to overwhelming prices.

It is suggested that the Mercury would rock a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, Adreno 350 GPU, 4 GB of RAM, and run Android 7.0 Nougat.

The phone is expected to be officially announced by Blackberry in January.
